The Second Part of The Case Study of Vanitas Anime Is Scheduled to Premiere in Winter 2022

It has been announced that the second part of The Case Study of Vanitas anime is scheduled to premiere in Winter 2022.

The story of the series is described as:

There once lived a vampire known as Vanitas, hated by his own kind for being born under a blue full moon, as most arise on the night of a crimson one. Afraid and alone, he created the “Book of Vanitas,” a cursed grimoire that would one day take his vengeance on all vampires; this is how the story goes at least.

The series follows Noé, a young man traveling aboard an airship in 19th century Paris with one goal in mind: to find the Book of Vanitas. A sudden vampire attack leads him to meet the enigmatic Vanitas, a doctor who specializes in vampires and, much to Noé’s surprise, a completely ordinary human. The mysterious doctor has inherited both the name and the infamous text from the Vanitas of legend, using the grimoire to heal his patients. But behind his kind demeanor lies something a bit more sinister…

Based on the manga by Jun Mochizuki, The Case Study of Vanitas is directed by Tomoyuki Itamura at studio Bones, with character designs by Yoshiyuki Ito and music by Yuki Kajiura.

The Case Study of Vanitas Manga to Go on Hiatus Due to Coronavirus Concerns

Manga creator Jun Mochizuki has posted on Twitter that her The Case Study of Vanitas (Vanitas no Carte) manga is going on an indefinite hiatus due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. Mochizuki explained that the process for creating the manga is completely analog, and her assistants would commute to and from Tokyo to work on the manga every month with Mochizuki. However, after consulting with staff at Square Enix, Mochizuki decided it was dangerous to have her assistants continue this commute, and so they decided to put the manga on hiatus for now.

Mochizuki launched The Case Study of Vanitas in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker magazine in December 2015. Yen Press has been publishing the manga simultaneously in English since its debut.
