GKIDS and Shout! Factory Present Promare Collector’s Edition Available on August 4, 2020

Following a phenomenally successful North American theatrical run, Promare, the top-grossing original anime feature of 2019, makes its way to home entertainment with a newly announced Collector’s Edition. The hyperkinetic, candy-colored visual masterpiece is available now on digital download and On Demand, and will be released on Blu-ray™ + DVD combo pack, as a standalone DVD, and as a SteelBook edition of the Blu-ray on May 19, 2020 from GKIDS and Shout! Factory. Bonus features include an interview with director Hiroyuki Imaishi, a round table with Studio Trigger, and Side: Galo and Side: Lio short films with new English dubs featuring the original dub cast. GKIDS Celebrates Digital Release with Promare Twitter Watch Party Including English Cast on April 21, 2020

GKIDS announces a special “Promare Watch Party” online event, in celebration of the digital release of the 2019 film Promare. On April 21, 2020, audiences are invited to join the Live Watch Party with the English voice cast by pressing play on their respective digital copies at 9:00PM ET, and following along on Twitter using #PromareWatchParty. Fans will be joined by the English voice cast tweeting along, reacting, answering fan questions, participating in special giveaways from GKIDS, and more under the #PromareWatchParty.

GKIDS Delays Its Upcoming Promare and Children of the Sea Screenings

GKIDS has announced that it has postponed both its new complete screenings of the Promare anime film, as well as its screenings of the Children of the Sea film. The company will announce new screening schedules at a later date.

The new “complete” screenings for Promare were scheduled for April 7 and 8 with English-subtitled and English-dubbed screenings, respectively.

The Children of the Sea screenings in the United States were scheduled for April 20 and 22, 2020 with English-subtitled and English-dubbed screenings, respectively. It was also scheduled for April 22 and 23, 2020 in Canada, and a limited theatrical run beginning on April 24, 2020.

In addition, GKIDS also announced that it is moving up the digital release date for Promare from May 5, 2020 to April 21, 2020, with the Blu-ray Disc and DVD release slated for May 19, 2020. It also announced that the Lu over the wall film is now available on Netflix.

GKIDS to Screen Promare Again With Two Prequel Shorts in U.S. Theaters in April 2020

GKIDS has announced that it will screen Trigger and XFLAG’s Promare anime film in the United States once again, with English-subtitled screenings on April 7, 2020, and English-dubbed screenings on April 8, 2020. The new “complete” screenings will include the “Side: Galo” and “Side: Lio” prequel anime short as well as a message from director Hiroyuki Imaishi.

Fathom Events screened the film in the United States on September 17 and 19, 2019. GKIDS began screening the movie in the United States on September 20, 2019 in select theaters, and in Canada on September 22, 2019. The screenings had either English subtitles or an English dub. GKIDS and Fathom Events then hosted 4DX screenings of the film in the United States on December 11, 2019. A screening event in the United States on December 8, 2019 screened the “Side: Galo” short.

Promare opened in Japanese theaters on May 24, 2019.

Three Anime Films Nominated for Annie Awards

The International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, has announced the nominees for its 47th Annual Annie Awards. Trigger and XFlag’s Promare, DLE and Madhouse’s Okko’s Inn, and Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering With You anime films received nominations in the Best Animated Independent Feature category. The other nominees in the category are Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles and I Lost My Body.

ASIFA-Hollywood added the Best Animated Independent Feature award for the 2016 awards in order to “recognize not only features in wide release, but also the independent animators, international studios, anime and special productions that might not otherwise get the attention they deserve.”

The Annie Awards recognize outstanding achievement in animation. The awards ceremony will be held on January 25, 2020.

Promare Anime Film to Get Additional 4DX and Dub Screenings

GKIDS and Fathom Events have announced that the Promare anime film will get 4DX screenings in the United States on December 11, 2019 as part of the “Promare (Redux)” event. The film will screen in English, and show times will vary by theater. The film will also get an additional event screening with an English dub in the U.S. on December 10, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. local time.

The film will screen in Japanese with English subtitles as part of the event in the United States on December 8, 2019 at 12:55 p.m. local time. All screenings during the event will include the short anime prequel “Side: Galo.”

Four Anime Films Submitted for Consideration for the Animated Feature Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the list of 32 films that have been submitted for consideration in the Animated Feature Film category for the 92nd Academy Awards. A maximum of five films from the list will receive the nomination.

These four anime films have been submitted for consideration:

  • Ayumu Watanabe and Studio 4°C’s Children of the Sea
  • Kitaro Kousaka, DLE, and Madhouse’s Okko’s Inn
  • Hiroyuki Imaishi and Trigger’s Promare
  • Makoto Shinkai and CoMix Wave Films’ Weathering With You

The Academy will reveal the nominations on January 13, 2020. The 92nd annual Academy Awards will be held on February 9, 2020.

Promare Anime Film to Get an Additional Screening in the United States on December 8, 2019

GKIDS and Fathom Events have announced that Trigger and XFlag’s Promare anime film will get an additional “Promare (Redux)” event screening in the United States on December 8, 2019 at 12:55 p.m. local time. The screening will have English subtitles and feature all-new bonus content.

GKIDS also confirmed that it will extend its screenings of the film into the next week at select locations in North America.

GKIDS Extends the Promare Anime Film’s Theatrical Run by Another Week

GKIDS has confirmed that its screenings of Trigger and XFlag’s Promare anime film in North American theaters will continue into next week at select locations. GKIDS has an updated list on its website, with all screening dates marked with “Thru 10/14+” having extended screenings.
