VIZ Media’s Announcements at Anime Expo 2022

Viz Media announced during its panel at Anime Expo 2022 that it will make all 366 English-dubbed episodes of the Bleach anime available to purchase digitally in the United States for a limited time on July 5, 2022 to July 7, 2022. VIZ Media will offer the bundle for a limited time after that, but at a higher price. The series will be available on Apple TV app, Microsoft, and VUDU and will retail for US$99.

The company also announced that it will release the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series on home video in February 2023, as well as the Burn the Witch anime in October 2022.

VIZ Media also confirmed that it will continue to simulpub Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga when it returns from hiatus for its second part on July 13, 2022 in Japan. The manga will switch publications from the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine to the Shonen Jump+ website in Japan.

The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Anime Film Is Now the Fourth Highest-Grossing Anime Film in U.S. History

Crunchyroll has announced that the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 anime film is now officially the fourth highest-grossing anime film in U.S. history.

In the film’s home country of Japan, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has so far grossed 13.32 billion yen (US$117.05 million), making it the ninth highest-grossing film of all time in the country. Internationally, it’s currently the 10th highest-grossing anime film around the world.

Crunchyroll simulcast the first season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime as it aired in Japan, later releasing an English dub for the series as well. Crunchyroll released the prequel anime film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 in North American theaters on March 18, 2022, with the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and select European countries getting screenings through March 2022 and April 2022.

The second season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime will be premiering on Japanese television in 2023.

Box Office Mojo is reporting that the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 anime film has earned a cumulative total of US$29,693,448, ranking #5 in its third weekend in the United States. The film earned US$1,970,000 over the weekend, earning US$564,000 on April 1, 2022, US$824,000 on April 2, 2022, and US$582,000 on April 3, 2022.

The film screened in 2,070 theaters, and had a per-theater average of US$951 over the weekend.

The film is based on Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School manga prequel story.

Box Office Mojo is reporting that the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 anime film has earned a cumulative total of US$27,723,448, ranking at #5 in its second weekend in the United States. The film earned US$4,579,727 over the weekend, earning US$1,301,503 on March 25, 2022, US$1,883,932 on March 26, 2022, and US$1,390,000 on March 27, 2022, respectively.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 screened in 2,418 theaters, and had a per-theater average of US$1,894 over the weekend.

The film is based on Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School manga prequel story.

Box Office Mojo is reporting that the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 anime film has earned a total of US$17,698,677 in its first three days in the United States, ranking at #2 in its opening weekend. The film earned US$5,798,256 on its opening day on March 18, 2022, but earned a total of US$8,678,309 by the end of that day if including the preview screenings on March 17, 2022. It further earned US$5,470,368 on March 19, 2022, and US$3,550,000 on March 20, 2022.

The film screened in 2,286 theaters, and had a per-theater average of US$6,482.

In comparison, Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train‘s debut weekend earnings in the United States were approximately US$21.2 million.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Anime Film Earns US$8.68 Million on March 18, 2022

Entertainment news source Variety is reporting that the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 anime film is set to debut at #2 in the United States in its opening weekend, behind The Batman.

The film earned US$8.68 million in 2,340 theaters in its first full day in the United States on March 18, 2022. Variety projects that the film will earn US$19 million in its debut weekend, which will approach Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train‘s debut weekend earnings in the United States of approximately US$21.2 million.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 earned about US$2.88 million at the United States box office from preview screenings in 2,003 theaters on March 17, 2022. The film opened with English subtitles and with an English dub in the United States and Canada on March 18, 2022.
