Anime Nominations for the Japan Academy Prize Association Awards

The Japan Academy Prize Association for excellence in film has announced the nominees for its 37th annual awards.

The five films nominated for Animation of the Year are:

  • The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
  • The Wind Rises
  • Captain Harlock
  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion
  • Lupin III vs. Detective Conan The Movie

The academy also honored composer Joe Hisaishi for the soundtracks of no less than three films: The Tale of Princess Kaguya, The Wind Rises, and Tokyo Family.

The nominees all receive “Awards of Excellence,” but the actual top award in each category will be presented at a ceremony that will take place March 7, 2014 at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo.

Hawaii International Film Festival Screening Anime

The Hawaii International Film Festival has announced that it will be screening Shinji Aramaki’s CG-animated Captain Harlock film and the remastered version of the 1985 anime film, Night on the Galactic Railroad. At this time, the event’s organizers have not announced the screening times for the films.

The Hawaii International Film Festival will be taking place October 10-20, 2013.
