19 Manga Rank on Young Adult Library Services Association’s 2019 List of Graphic Novels for Teens

The American Library Association’s (ALA’s) Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has released its 2019 list of Great Graphic Novels for Teens. Gengoroh Tagame’s My Brother’s Husband and Hiromu Arakawa’s Silver Spoon ranked in the Top Ten graphic novels this year.

The 19 manga included on the list are:

VIZ Media Announces New Supernatural Action Manga Series Black Torch

VIZ Media delivers a new, supernatural story with the release of Black Torch on August 7, 2018.

Black Torch features story and artwork by Tsuyoshi Takaki and will be published in print under the Shonen Jump imprint with an MSRP of $9.99 U.S. / $12.99 CAN. The print edition of Volume 1 also includes a fold-out full-color poster. Black Torch will launch digitally on August 7, 2018 via viz.com and the Viz Manga App, as well as from the NOOK, Kobo, Kindle, iBooks, Comixology, and Google Play stores. Future volumes of the series will be published on a quarterly basis.

In Black Torch, Jiro Azuma is descended from of a long line of ninja, and he also can talk to animals. One day, he rescues a very unique black cat named Rago, a supernatural being, and is dragged into a secret supernatural war.

VIZ Media Announces New Manga Series Acquisitions at 2017 Comic-Con International

VIZ Media announced the acquisition of several notable new manga properties during its official panel event at the 2017 Comic-Con International.

New titles to be published in print and digital under the Shonen Jump imprint include Black Torch, a supernatural action series about a boy who can talk to animals and is dragged into a secret battle to defend humanity against hostile spirits, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, a romantic comedy featuring the hilarious antics of a pair of geniuses in love, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, a paranormal adventure about a young man’s quest to reverse his sister’s hideous transformation into one of the very monsters he fights. The first of these new titles will launch in early 2018.

VIZ Media also announced plans to publish Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction by Inio Asano.

Additional information on each of these titles will be announced in the near future.

VIZ Media’s Announcements at Comic-Con International 2017

VIZ Media made some announcements during their panel at Comic-Con International 2017.

The company announced that it has licensed the Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge anime film, and that it will release the film in Spring 2018.

VIZ Media also announced the following cast members for the Greed Island Arc of the Hunter x Hunter anime series:

  • Tara Sands is Biscuit Krueger
  • Todd Haberkorn is Genthru
  • Beau Billingslea is Nostrade
  • Dorothy Fahn is Melody

It was also announced that the first episode of the 2011 Hunter x Hunter anime will be available for viewing for free on iTunes and other electronic sell-through platforms for a limited time starting at 5:00 p.m. on July 20, 2017.

The company also announced that it will be releasing Tsuyoshi Takaki’s Black Torch, Aka Akasaka’s Kaguya-sama: Love is War, and Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga under its Shonen Jump imprint.

Additionally, VIZ Media announced that it will publish Inio Asano’s Dead Dead Demon’s Dededededestruction manga in English.
