Anime Expo Lite Streaming Event Announces Yoshitaka Amano as Guest

The organizers of the Anime Expo convention have announced that this year’s Anime Expo Lite event will be a two-day livestream and host artist and character designer Yoshitaka Amano.

The free event will also feature content from companies such as Bushiroad, Crunchyroll, Pony Canyon, and VIZ Media. Additionally, the livestream will feature other guests, panels, industry announcements, live content, exclusive content from Japan, Q&A sessions, and giveaways.

The physical Anime Expo 2020 event was planned for July 2-5, 2020 at the Los Angeles Convention Center but was canceled due to the COVID-19 situation.

Anime Expo Holds “Lite” Event in July 2020

Anime Expo’s official Twitter account has announced that it will be hosting “Anime Expo Lite” on July 3 and July 4, 2020. The convention’s official website hasn’t posted any details about the event yet, but allows visitors to sign up for updates. The Twitter post features logos for Bushiroad, Crunchyroll, Pony Canyon, and VIZ Media.

Anime Expo 2020 was planned for July 2-5, 2020 but was canceled due to the COVID-19 situation.

FUNimation Entertainment announced on May 4, 2020 that it will host a virtual anime convention named the Funimation Con 2020 on July 3-4, 2020. The company describes the event as “A two-day stream of cosplay meetups, industry panels, Q&A sessions, and more.”

Anime Expo 2020 Cancelled Due to COVID-19

Ray Chiang, CEO of The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA), has announced that this year’s Anime Expo convention has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation. The event was planned for July 2-5, 2020.

Chiang said: “With the COVID-19 situation continually changing, as well as more restrictions in place worldwide and in our host city Los Angeles, we can’t in good faith move forward with this year’s event. We know it will affect all of you differently and we did not come to this decision lightly.”

Chiang added that badge holders will have the option to either get refunds or roll over their badge to the 2021 event, which is scheduked for July 2-5, 2021. He asked for patience as the process for refunds and rollover will take time. In addition, hotel rooms booked through ConferenceDirect in the AX official hotel block will automatically be cancelled. Those who booked hotels outside of that service will need to contact their hotel directly.

Anime Expo Lists Screenings for the Hakubo and Anemone Films and the ACTORS and Hensuki TV Anime

The schedule for Anime Expo is currently listing that the event will screen the Hakubo and ANEMONE: Eureka Seven: Hi – Evolution anime films, and will also screen the world premiere of the ACTORS: Songs Connection television anime series as well as a premiere screening of the Hensuki: Are you willing to fall in love with a pervert, as long as she’s a cutie? television anime series.

Yutaka Yamamoto’s original anime project Hakubo (Twilight) will have its North American premiere at Anime Expo on July 6, 2019.

Anime Expo will screen ANEMONE: Eureka Seven: Hi – Evolution (Anemone: Kōkyōshihen Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution) with English subtitles on July 6, 2019 with voice actress Kaori Nazuka (voice of Eureka). FUNnimation Entertainment had announced in October 2018 that it will screen the film in theaters in 2019.

Kadokawa and FUNimation are hosting the 18+ panel screening of the premiere of the Hensuki: Are you willing to fall in love with a pervert, as long as she’s a cutie? anime on July 5, 2019. The anime is scheduled to premiere on Japanese television on July 8, 2019, with FUNimation launching a simulcast on the same day. A simuldub will launch on FunimationNow on July 22, 2019.

Anime Expo will screen the world premiere of ACTORS: Songs Connection on July 7, 2019.

TMS Entertainment to Screen the Lupin the IIIrd: Fujiko’s Lie and Lupin the IIIrd: Goemon’s Blood Spray Anime Films at Anime Expo

TMS Entertainment has announced that it will screen the Lupin the IIIrd: Fujiko’s Lie (Lupin the IIIrd: Mine Fujiko no Uso) and Lupin the IIIrd: Goemon’s Blood Spray (Lupin the IIIrd Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon) anime films at this year’s Anime Expo on July 6, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. The screenings will debut the English dubs for both films, and will be restricted to people at least 18 years of age.

Lupin the IIIrd: Mine Fujiko no Uso opened in Japan on May 31, 2019. The Lupin the IIIrd Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon (Lupin the Third: Goemon Ishikawa’s Spray of Blood) film opened in Japan in February 2017.

Anime Expo will be taking place July 4-7, 2019 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.

The First Ten Minutes of the New Shin Evangelion Film to Screen at Anime Expo and Japan Expo

Toei has announced that it will screen the first 10 minutes and 40 seconds of Studio Khara’s new Evangelion film, Shin Evangelion Gekijō-ban :||, on July 6, 2019.

The Japan Expo event in Paris will screen the video, titled “Shin Evangelion Gekijōban AVANT 1 (Beginning 10 Minutes 40 Seconds 00 Frame) 0706 Version” at a “Yoko Takahashi x Evangelion Stage” presentation. The video is the introduction scene to the film before the title card.

The video will also screen at Anime Expo in Los Angeles and in Shanghai, as well as in various places inside Japan, on July 6, 2019. Toei also stated the video will screen simultaneously worldwide, but did not state where it will be available outside of those cities and events, or if those events will be the only places that will screen the video.

Anime Expo to Host a Screening of the Kengan Ashura Anime

Anime Expo has announced that it will be hosting a “Kengan Ashura Special Screening & Talk Show” featuring Kengan Ashura manga creators Yabako Sandrovich and Daromeon. The panel will also screen some of the anime, although the panel description did not specify what episode(s) it will screen.

The anime adaptation of the manga will premiere on Netflix globally on July 31, 2019. The anime already had its world premiere at Anime Expo in July 2018.

Anime Expo will be taking place July 4-7, 2019 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.

Anime Expo Announces Harume Kosaka as Guest

Anime Expo has announced that anime director Harume Kosaka will be a guest at its upcoming convention.

Kosaka will participate in Frontier Works’ panel on July 6, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. The panel will preview the forthcoming anime Special Crime Investigation Unit Special 7, which Kosaka is directing. The panel will also screen a “new episode” of Hyperdimension Neptunia, and will also preview the upcoming anime The 8th son? Are you kidding me?

Special Crime Investigation Unit Special 7 is scheduled to premiere in Fall 2019, while The 8th son? Are you kidding me? will premiere in 2020. The “new episode” of Hyperdimension Neptunia is an original video anime project.

Anime Expo will be taking place July 4-7, 2019 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.
