Otakon 2023 has announced that director and mechanical designer Shinji Aramaki will be a guest at its upcoming convention.
Aramaki’s first title as a director was Metal Skin Panic MADOX-01 (1988), followed by MegaZone 23: Part III (1989). He was the director as well as the mechanical designer, and this style also continued with later titles.
The 2004 full 3DCG title Appleseed utilized toon shading and motion capturing, winning accolades for his groundbreaking directorial expression, both domestically and internationally. In 2007, the sequel Appleseed Ex Machina was released.
In 2010, Aramaki created Sola Digital Arts Inc., handling planning and producing motion picture works. Other directorial titles include Starship Troopers: Invasion (2012), Space Pirate Captain Harlock (2013), Appleseed Alpha (2014), Ultraman (2019-2023, co-directed with Kenji Kamiyama), Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2045 (2020-2022, co-directed with Kenji Kamiyama), and Blade Runner: Black Lotus (2021, co- directed with Kenji Kamiyama).
Otakon will be held from July 28-30, 2023 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
