The official website for the four-member Japanese rock band sumika has announced that Junnosuke Kuroda, the band’s guitarist, passed away on February 23, 2023. No cause of death was given. He was 34 years old at the time of his passing.

The band was formed in May 2013 and Kuroda was one of its founding members. Among anime fans, they are known for their theme song works, such as “Fiction” (Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku opening theme) “Fanfare” & “Shunka Shuto” (I Want to Eat Your Pancreas theme songs), “Equal” (MIX first cour opening theme), “Higher Ground” (My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising theme song), “Shake & Shake” (Pretty Boy Detective Club opening theme), and “Glitter” (A Couple of Cuckoos second cour opening theme).
