The episode opens with Loid, in disguise, scoping out the venue for the upcoming gathering of honor students and their families at Eden College. We get to hear his thoughts as he determines that the various ways to infiltrate won’t work. After a couple of minutes, he decides that he has to find a different way to try to meet Donovan Desmond.

We see Anya, Becky, Damian, Emile, and Ewen at their lockers. I was surprised to see them using lockers, because I’d never seen anything earlier in the series to indicate that Eden College has lockers. Anyway, Loid (still in his disguise) is listening in on their conversation and finds out that Damian may be meeting with his father by the library after the gathering is over. Anya overhears Loid’s thoughts at one point, and decides that she’s going to try to meet Desmond as well. Damian gets mad at Anya for following him like a stalker, and Anya gives him a pep talk (in her own, childish way) after Damian decides he’s not going to meet with his father. After Anya’s outbursts, though, Damian decides to go to the meetup spot. Anya and Becky try to watch from a distance, but Anya falls asleep. Becky has Martha carry the sleeping Anya so they can take her home.

It turns out that the keychains that Anya bought for herself and Becky in Episode 24 ended up being important in this episode. We see that Loid created a copy of it, and he drops it nearby while Damian is waiting for his father. Near the end of the gathering, Loid (as himself) approaches Damian, Emile, and Ewen and asks if they found the keychain. He claims it’s important to Anya and she was crying over losing it. Sure enough, they found it. Loid introduces himself and apologizes for Anya punching Damian at the entrance ceremony. Donovan and his security detail arrive at just this moment.

Most of the rest of the episode focuses on Loid making his first contact with Donovan, starting with an apology to Donovan for Anya punching Damian at the entrance ceremony. This part of the episode was quite insightful into how Donovan interacts with Damian, and there were several times where I wanted to give Damian a hug. I appreciated seeing how Loid interacted with Damian and tried sticking up for him. However, Loid understood his limits and didn’t try to push things too far. Even though Loid was having to put on an act with his special agent training, I felt like his words about child rearing still rang true. When all was said and done, Loid at least got Donovan to learn his name, and the conversation also gave Loid a little more insight into the Desmonds’ family dynamics.

I thought this was a great note to end the first season of Spy x Family on. I also liked seeing the “To be continued” text at the bottom of the screen at the end of the episode. I already knew about a second season being forthcoming from the recent announcement at Jump Festa, but it was still reassuring to see the fact that another season is in the works being acknowledged in the anime itself. I’m really going to miss watching Spy x Family, but I can at least console myself with the knowledge that there will be another season of the anime coming at some point in 2023.
