The son of actor Taro Shigaki announced on his Twitter account on December 6, 2022 that his father passed away on March 5, 2022 due to heart failure at the age of 70. This was the first update to the son’s Twitter account since March 4, 2022.
Taro Shigaki, whose off-stage name was Minoru Kawamura, was born on September 22, 1951, in Tokyo’s Ota Ward. He began his career while still in high school in 1969 in a stage show at Geijutsuza theater in Chiyoda, Tokyo. He began his on-screen career in 1970 in an NHK drama. Shigaki appeared in many television dramas and films, including 2014’s live-action Black Butler film as Tanaka. Later in life, Shigaki was a popular presenter on Japanese variety shows.
In anime, Shigaki’s credits include Andre in The Rose of Versailles, Saki Vashtal in the Area 88 OVA, the Prince in both the Japanese version of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid and World Masterpiece Fairy Tales: Swan Lake, and Soldier Blue in Toward the Terra.
