HIDIVE, home of the Lupin The 3rd anime series, has acquired the exclusive rights to the new spin-off series Lupin Zero. Set in the 1960’s during Japan’s Showa Era, this original anime story centers on a teenaged Lupin III and delves into his untold origins as the world’s greatest thief. Lupin Zero will run for six episodes and debuts on December 16, 2022 on HIDIVE. To celebrate the new series, HIDIVE will co-host the world premiere screening of Lupin Zero at Anime NYC on November 18, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. EST.

“We’re thrilled to launch the new original anime Lupin Zero this December as an exclusive series only available on HIDIVE, home of the Lupin The 3rd anime series,” said John Ledford, President and General Manager of HIDIVE. “Lupin III has been entertaining audiences for over 50 years and this fan-favorite character is returning with all new mysteries – but this time as a teenager in junior high in 1960’s Tokyo. This new action series will not disappoint!”

Lupin III, a bored junior high schooler in Tokyo, takes an interest in a young Daisuke Jigen, a mysterious and impressive marksman. Lupin III strikes up a conversation with Jigen at a nightclub, however during their talk, Jigen concludes that Lupin III is simply a privileged and naïve boy from a well-to-do family and doesn’t want anything to do with him. However, while helping the nightclub singer Yoko, who is being pursued by the yakuza, Jigen learns that Lupin III is a descendant of the legendary thief.

The production of Lupin Zero reunited Lupin The 3rd Part 5 alumni Daisuke Sakou (director), Ichirou Okouchi (series supervisor), Asami Taguchi (character designer) and animation studio Telecom Animation Film, which separately also animated Lupin The 3rd Part 2 and Part 4.

In advance of the new series’ December 2022 release, Lupin III fans can relive the thrills of the complete six-part series Lupin The 3rd – only on HIDIVE and available in both English sub and dub.
