Entertainment news website Deadline has reported that Netflix’s new live-action series of the Death Note manga has hired Halia Abdel-Meguid as a writer as well as executive producer. Deadline describes Abdel-Meguid as a “longtime fan” of Death Note, and a fluent Japanese speaker who lived in Tokyo before.
Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, also known as the Duffer Brothers, are developing the show at their new Upside Down production studio. The planned Death Note series will be a “new take” from Netflix’s previous live-action Death Note film, which was directed by Adam Wingard and released in August 2017.

I’d ask “did they not learn their lesson the first time” but then consider Netflix’s other live-action anime disasters, so they’ve had more than a couple of times to figure this out. Though it’s maybe a good sign that the writer is a fan of the series at least.
Either way, it’s not a big deal for me. Death Note was pretty good, but it was far from a favorite. If they were to screw up Kaiji I’d never forgive them.
