The official website for Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of a Dark Dusk, the second film in the Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- anime film series, has announced that the film is delayed due to production delays caused by COVID-19. The film’s August 24, 2022 advanced screening in Japan is also canceled.
The site will reveal a new release date at a later time. The film was scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on September 10, 2022.
Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night, the first anime film in the project, opened in Japan in October 2021. FUNimation Entertainment screened the film in both standard and IMAX theaters in the United States and Canada on December 3, 2021 and screened the film in Australia and New Zealand on December 9, 2021.
The anime is based on Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series.
