GKIDS has announced that according to theater reports, Mamoru Hosoda’s Belle anime film has earned more than US$3 million in the United States box office after two weeks in theaters.
The film is Hosoda’s highest grossing film in North America. Mirai previously held the record with US$812,000.
According to GKIDS director of distribution Chance Huskey, the film is the highest-grossing original anime film (not tied to a franchise) in the United States since Weathering With You in 2020.
Belle earned more than an estimated US$2 million in its opening weekend in the United States.
GKIDS began screening the film in English and in Japanese with English subtitles in the United States on January 14, 2022. IMAX previews opened in select theaters on January 12, 2022.
Belle opened in Japanese theaters on July 16, 2021.

It’s a really solid movie. The weak point for me seems to be that the characters were not that unique, but the animation and music are certainly top notch. I would rather watch the film again than see any other movie in theaters right now.
