Voice Actress Yoshiko Ohto Passes Away

The Theater Echo theater troupe has announced that voice actress Yoshiko Ohta passed away on October 29, 2021 due to heart failure. She was 89 years old at the time of her passing.

Ohta was born in April 1932 in Hyogo prefecture. She joined the Theater Echo troupe in 1963, and worked as an actress as well as a voice actress.

Ohta performed many roles in anime, including Akko in Himitsu no Akko-chan, Sapphire in Princess Knight, Leo in Kimba the White Lion, Akira Asagumo in Big X, Gan-chan in Yatterman, Baby Panda and Baby Tiger in Panda! Go, Panda!, Nobi Nobita in the 1973 Doraemon, the first Sewashi in the 1979 Doraemon, Kyōko Otowa in Aim For The Best!, Jim in Jim Button, and Don in Ryu, the Cave Boy.

She has also provided Japanese dub voices for several Disney films, including Mary in Peter Pan and Vixey in The Fox and the Hound.

Ohta received the Tokyo Anime Award Festival’s (TAAF) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.
