Talent management agency Aoni Production has announced that voice actress Saori Sugimoto passed away on October 21, 2021 due to congestive heart failure associated with anorexia. She was 58 years old at the time of her passing.
Sugimoto’s best known credit is for voicing the character Ramurin Makiba in the Shimajirō children’s anime franchise, a role she has voiced since the beginning of the 1993 anime Shima Shima Tora no Shimajirou. She was also the second voice actress to voice the character Kisanta Yamamura in the Nintama Rantaro anime, taking over the role from Tomiko Suzuki. In Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, she voiced the character Catherine Bloom. Sugimoto also provided voices for Hello Kitty’s Theater, Sonic X, Fist of the North Star 2, Green Green, and Sazae-san.
