Actor Ed Asner Passes Away

The family of actor and voice actor Ed Asner (Edward Asner) announced that he passed away on August 29, 2021. He was 91 years old at the time of his passing.

Asner was born in November 1929 in Kansas City, and his acting career started in theater. He is the former president of the Screen Actors Guild, and he is best known for his role as Lou Grant in The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spin-off show Lou Grant. Other roles include Santa Claus in Elf and Sid Weinberg in Cobra Kai.

In voice acting, Asner is most known for his role as Carl Fredericksen in Pixar’s Up CG film. Other voice roles include: Ed Wuncler in The Boondocks, Roland Daggett in Batman: The Animated Series, Granny Goodness in various DC series such as Superman/Batman: Apocalypse and Superman: The Animated Series, and J. Jonah Jameson in the 1994 Spider-Man animated series. In anime, Asner played the role of Grandpa Ayanokoji in 3×3 Eyes Seima Densetsu.

Asner was also an author, a trade unionist, a philanthropist, and a political activist.
