The Island of Giant Insects Anime Film Launches a Second English Dub Kickstarter

The Kickstarter page to crowdfund a dub for The Island of Giant Insects anime film has launched a “Round 2” campaign.

The project attempted a previous Kickstarter campaign earlier in 2020, but fell short of its 8,500,000-yen (about US$80,000) goal. The new Round 2 campaign has a lower 4,000,000-yen (about US$38,000) goal, and some of the extras promoted in the first attempt are now stretch goals in the Round 2 campaign. There are also new merchandise such as character goods available as backer rewards. Backing tiers have been reorganized, with a new tier that allows a backer to potentially voice the female character Nozawa and another tier for a mixed gender group of backers to voice extras. There is an existing tier that allows a backer to voice the male character Akira.

As of this writing, the campaign has raised 1,966,455 yen (about US$18,720) of the 4,000,000-yen goal. The Nozawa and Akira voice-acting tiers are filled, and only one backer slot is still available to voice extras.

The dub cast includes:

  • YongYea is Satoshi Oda
  • Brendan Blaber is Hiroshi Tsuge
  • Elsie Lovelock is Inoha Enoki
  • Sarah Wiedenheft is Ai Inō
  • Nick Landis is Atsushi Kamijo
  • Alejandro Saab is Kazuhiko Kai
  • Amber Lee Connors is Mirei Jinno
  • Sarah Roach is Mutsumi Oribe
  • Lizzie Ray is Chitose Naruse
  • Brittney Karbowski is Ayumi Matsuoka
  • Kayli Mills is Mami Miura

Sound Cadence Studios will produce the English dub of the film, if the campaign is successful.

The theatrical film edition of the anime of Yasutaka Fujimi, RED ICE, and Shu Hirose’s The Island of Giant Insects (Kyochū Rettō) manga opened in Japanese theaters on January 10, 2020.
