Cells at Work to Get New Spin-off Manga on January 12, 2019

The official website for Kodansha’s Bessatsu Friend magazine has announced that Akane Shimizu’s Cells at Work! manga will get a new spin-off manga in the magazine’s February 2019 issue titled Hataraku Saibō Friend (Cells at Work! Friend). The manga’s debut will feature two chapters. Kanna Kurono is writing the story for the manga, while Mio Izumi is drawing the art.

The manga will focus on a Killer T Cell, who is normally strict with himself and others, but wants to have fun during his time off. He wants to make friends, but doesn’t want to ruin his intimidating character at the same time.

Shimizu’s original Cells at Work! manga launched in the March 2015 issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius, and Kodansha shipped the fifth compiled volume in Japan in August 2017.

Given Killer T Cell was the character I found least interesting in the anime, I don’t think I’d like this very much. Still, any of the characters could potentially be a focus character given the nature of the premise so this will probably work for people who enjoyed his character.
