SaikouCon is a three day, anime and cosplay convention located in the heart of the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. SaikouCon, which means “best convention,” is the annual anime convention of Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountain area with several side events in the Lehigh Valley, boasting a dedicated staff of longtime Japanese anime and manga fans. SaikouCon builds programming made to make memories every year, always striving for panel diversity and a balance between Japanese Pop Culture, Classical Japanese Culture, Cosplay, fun and games, original music, original music, and more original music.
The convention will always remain very hands on and attendee friendly every year, while also maintaining a safe atmosphere for attendees to enjoy the convention to their carefree fullest. SaikouCon promises to remain an all inclusive event where all are welcome to enjoy the fun, friendship, and safety the con has offered in the past. As always, Cosplay =/= Consent is a very important issue to the staff of SaikouCon, and the same rules and regulations that made SaikouCon Years 1-6 safe havens for cosplayers will be enforced just as strictly at SaikouCon 2019.
After a lengthy search that began the day after SaikouCon 2018 concluded, the NEPA based anime convention has finally found a venue for their 2019 show, and hopefully after six years of shows, perhaps a long term home in the Mountain Laurel Resort & Spa. Located in White Haven, Pennsylvania, the convention was hesitant to move their show out of Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley area (Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton) after a two fold whammy of establishing the Japanese Pop and Classical Culture convention in the Valley as well as a mixed bag of positive and negative experiences for attendees and merchants with the 2016 show. 2016 was the convention’s last foray outside the Lehigh Valley at another venue in the same region it is moving to now.
Convention Chair, Michael Meade, released the following statement with the venue reveal on October 18, 2018 on the convention website and social media presence:
“There you have it, friends! SaikouCon is moving up to the mountains and slightly away from city life for 2019 and maybe beyond! As trepidatious as myself and the rest of the Saikou Crew were to move out of the Lehigh Valley and back up into the Pocono Mountains again, moving to the Mountain Laurel Resort & Spa gives us some much need leg room to grow, while offering our attendees much more amenities than we have been able to for a few years now. The Lehigh Valley has been great to us, and we’re by no means leaving the Valley behind completely (most, if not all, of our side events, like the Anime Night Free Screenings we do with The Encounter Comics and Games, will remain in the Lehigh Valley), it’s just time for us to be in a venue that allows us to grow. This is our seventh year and our sixth felt like the first again in all the wrong ways, we hope you are as excited for this new beginning as we are! Stay tuned for more announcements soon, pre-registration for SaikouCon 2019 will be opening this Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 12 p.m. EDT, Merchant Applications and Volunteer Applications will open on November 1, 2018 at 12 p.m. EDT, Panel Submissions will be open in December 2018 (exact date TBD), and Media Applications will open sometime after the turn of the year. Who else is stoked?!?”
SaikouCon 2019 will be taking place August 2, 3, and 4 of 2019; the convention will be filled with over 70 hours of programming including panels, workshops, anime screenings sponsored by FUNimation, concerts, cosplay events, DJ parties, video gaming, table top gaming, guest star autograph sessions and meet ‘n greets, LARPing activities and events (finally!!), and more. Welcome to the Golden Seven, SaikouCon’s Seventh Year! Good Fortune, Friendship, Community, and more fun than ever before at the anime convention that has defied the odds again and again.
