30 Day Anime Challenge: Day 30 – An Anime You Wish Never Ended And Continued On

Here we are, at the last day of the challenge… and my final prompt is to talk about an anime I wish never ended and continued on. Technically, my answer only kind of fits this prompt. My answer more is for an anime I wish could have continued on in order to finish the story that was told in the manga.

My pick is Fruits Basket. This is an anime that was in production while the manga was ongoing, and the anime series ended well before the manga did. Because of that, the ending for the anime is rather weak. Also, this means there are characters and plot points that are missing from the anime because of this. I really like how the manga ended, and I would have liked to see the Fruits Basket anime pick back up and continue by the time the manga ended. If things had been different, and the manga had been much further along before an anime was green-lit, maybe we would have gotten the complete story in anime form. Oh well. Maybe at some point, someone can produce a good reboot anime that tells the entirety of the manga’s story from beginning to end.

Fruits Basket definitely needs a continuation. One of the few anime that I really wanted to know more about what happened to the characters to the point where I did hunt down the source material and read what happened because there was so much more to the family mystery to learn.

Fruits Basket was an awful anime in comparison to how strong the manga was. There was such a fantastic and in depth story and the anime was cut so short. I really hope it gets the reboot it deserves.
