30 Day Anime Challenge: Day 18 – Favorite Supporting Female Anime Character

Today’s prompt asks me to talk about my favorite supporting female anime character. While it wasn’t quite as hard of a choice as my favorite supporting male anime character, it still took some deliberation.

In the end, I choose Olivier Mira Armstrong from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. She’s tough, yet also has a caring side to her. Since she didn’t exist in the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime, her appearance was quite the surprise… especially finding out that she’s the sister of Alex Louis Armstrong, one of the goofier characters in the franchise. These siblings are complete opposites of each other, and they seem to balance each other out. Over the course of the series, Olivier retains her toughness, but it does tone down a bit as her character develops and evolves over the course of the story. I think she’s a great addition to the cast, and she adds another female who can fight alongside the predominantly male cast. While I think Riza Hawkeye is a great female character in this series that fits this description as well, there’s just something about Olivier that makes her stand out just a little bit more. It’s not something I can really describe and put into words, though.
