Progress Technologies’ Kickstarter campaign to fund an eBook version of Buronson and Tetsuo Hara’s Fist of the North Star manga ended on November 11, 2017 after raising 22,936,350 yen (about US$201,981). The campaign’s original goal was three million yen (US$26,425).
The campaign will publish the entire manga in both English and Japanese versions on a device Progress Technologies calls an “eOneBook.” The device has a high resolution display inside that allows readers to browse through the whole manga and switch between languages. The display is sandwiched between physical paper pages and an interchangeable dust jacket cover, to emulate the physical appearance and feel of a book.
The campaign expects to begin mass production in January 2018, and start shipping the product in February 2018. The release includes all 18 volumes of Fist of the North Star [Extreme Edition] plus the “He Who Rides With Me” bonus chapter.
