Anton Yelchin, who provided the voice for Shun Kazama in the English dub of From Up on Poppy Hill, passed away on June 19, 2016 due to a car accident. He was 27 years old at the time of his passing.
According to Yelchin’s friends who had visited him after he did not appear at a scheduled band rehearsal, they had found the actor pinned against a brick mailbox pillar and security gate by his own vehicle. The car was still running and in neutral when the actor was found. According to Los Angeles County coroner’s office investigator Selena Barros there were “no obvious suspicious circumstances involved.”
Yelchin is also known for portraying the character of Pavel Chekov in the new Star Trek film series, including 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness. He will appear posthumously in Star Trek Beyond. Yelchin also appeared in the 2010 live-action American-Japanese co-production film Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac. He was also announced as being part of the voice cast of Guillermo del Toro and Netflix’s Trollhunters series.
