Anime voice actress Yuko Mizutani passed away on May 17, 2016 due to breast cancer. She was 51 years old at the time of her passing.
Mizutani is most well known in Japan for playing the elder sister character Sakiko Sakura in the Chibi Maruko-chan anime series. The voices of the episodes for May 22 and May 29, 2016 have already been recorded. A successor voice actress for the role will be announced at a later date.
Mizutani’s other credits include Pinoko in many of the Black Jack television anime, OVA, and films, Mihoshi Kuramitsu in the Tenchi Muyo! franchise, Ikuko Tsukino in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal, Naoko in Time of Eve, Cheimin Noa in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Excellen Browning in Super Robot Wars OG: Divine Wars, Sōten in InuYasha, Kukuru in Arc the Lad, Sora Takenouchi (as well as Otamamon and Yuko Yagami) in Digimon Adventure, Luchs in Saber Marionette J, Maiko Shindo in Gravitation: Lyrics of Love, Great Will of the Macrocosm in Excel Saga, Apple in Zillion, Chocolat Misu in Sorcerer Hunters, Mizuki Segawa in The Guyver: Bio-Booster Armor, Kyouko Oazki in Shiki, Namiko Tsuki in Kasimasi – Girl Meets Girl, Nightin in One Piece “3D2Y” Ace no Shi wo Koete! Luffy Nakama to no Chikai, Marie in Nadia – The Secret of Blue Water, and Mihoshi Mizutani in Magical Girl Pretty Sammy.
In video games, Mizutani played Queen Minnie in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, Iris in Project X Zone, and Militsa in Tales of Rebirth.
Mizutani was married to director Mizuho Nishikubo.
