VIZ Media held a Sailor Moon panel at Anime Boston 2015, and announced that the first home video release for Sailor Moon R is scheduled to be released on July 14, 2015, and will be priced at US$79.98. This set will contain Episodes 47-68 and will come in a premium chipboard box, and the set will also include a 96-page full color booklet. This release will be a Blu-ray/DVD Combo that will include three DVDs and three Blu-ray Discs.

The season is divided into two arcs: One arc being an anime filler (to give Naoko Takeuchi time to make the next manga), and the other arc being the actual Black Moon plot.
