Detective Conan Manga to Go on Hiatus Due to the Creator’s Surgery

Detective Conan (Case Closed) manga creator Gosho Aoyama is announcing in this year’s 16th issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine that he has to put his serialization on an irregular schedule. He explained the sudden announcement by saying that he went to the hospital for an operation. He assured his fans that the surgery went as planned without incident, but he is staying in the hospital for a little while longer. Aoyama declined to name the illness, citing his privacy. He is tentatively leaving the hospital around Summer 2015 and plans to return to his regular serialization then.

The manga will not run in the 17th issue on March 25, 2015, but whether it will run in the 18th issue has not been decided. The magazine will begin running previously published chapters in the 19th issue on April 8, 2015.

Aoyama launched Detective Conan in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1994. VIZ Media publishes the manga in English.
