The official Twitter account for the Assassination Classroom anime series announced that the delayed third episode would air on Fuji TV at 25:20 on January 30, 2015 (effectively 1:20 a.m. on January 31, 2015 in Japan or 11:20 a.m. on January 30, 2015 EST). The episode aired as scheduled.
The episode was delayed last week due to “various circumstances,” which seemed to correspond with the kidnapping of two Japanese men (Kenji Goto and Haruna Yukawa) by the terrorist group ISIS. In a video released last week, ISIS demanded US$200 million within 72 hours in exchange for the men’s release, and the deadline for the exchange was 2:50 p.m. JST (12:50 a.m. EST) on January 23, 2015. The Japanese government later received a photograph, purportedly of Goto holding a photograph of Yukawa’s body. The captors then changed their demands, asking for the release of Iraqi female prisoner Sajida al-Rishawi in Jordan in exchange for the release of both Goto and Jordanian pilot Moaz al-Kasasbeh.
