Log Horizon 2 is the second season of the Log Horizon television anime series. Log Horizon tells the tale of what happens when players of the MMORPG game, Elder Tale, mysteriously find themselves actually inside the game after the 12th expansion, “Novasphere Pioneers,” is added. The main character of the series is Shiroe, and he is joined by his two companions Naotsugu and Akatsuki. As the first season progressed, Shiroe helped to establish alliances between guilds by forming the Round Table, helped to introduce commerce and new ideas to the game’s world, and he even formed his own guild called Log Horizon which included many of Shiroe’s friends as its members.
Of course, not everything went smoothly. The Round Table found itself entangled in issues involving the People of the Land and the nobles, as well as taking on goblin forces that attacked and caused chaos.
The primary focus of Episode Eight is on the maidens’ raid against Nelreth, the murderer. Akatsuki plays a major role in this episode, since she and Marielle are the ones who are supposed to lure Nelreth through the city to each location where a small group of the maidens wait. Akatsuki has a breakthrough and discovers her Teaching for herself through this raid. Like it had been stated in Episode Seven, a Teaching can’t be taught to someone. As we see in Episode Eight, a Teaching is acquired when the person faces themselves endlessly and trains. We see that her Teaching is Hide Shadow, which allows Akatsuki to create multiple versions of herself; think along the lines of “double team” from Pokemon or the shadow clone jutsu from Naruto. I like Akatsuki’s Teaching, and hopefully we’ll get to see her use it more during Log Horizon 2.
We also see Lenessia debating with Kinjou over whether or not they should shut down the magic circle that protects Akihabara. In the end, Lenessia wins with the argument that they need to make it up to the adventurers for both the Kunie clan’s failure and the failure of the People of the Land. As we see in the episode, taking down the magic circle allows the maidens to succeed; but since it’s been stressed that there were a lot of risks in doing this, could this portend a future disaster for Akihabara?
Right at the end of Episode Eight, we get to see a brief bit with Shiroe and his raid party, so I figured the emphasis will be returning to them in Episode Nine. The preview for Episode Nine showed that my thinking was right, except for the fact that it appears the episode will be backtracking to Christmas Eve and follow what happens to Shiroe before he finds Akatsuki on the beach. So I’m guessing that the next few episodes will follow Shiroe after his death in the raid to retrying the raid (since we know they’re about to retry through a telepathic communication Shiroe had with Akatsuki at the end of Episode Eight). I’m sure that eventually both Akatsuki and Shiroe’s storylines will intersect again somehow, and it’ll be interesting to see where the story goes at such a point that they do intersect again.
