Legendary film actress Lauren Bacall passed away on August 12, 2014. She was 89 years old at the time of her passing.
Bacall was born Betty Joan Perske in New York City in 1924. She made her debut at the age of 19 in To Have and Have Not with Humphrey Bogart. She later married Bogart, and they stayed together until Bogart’s death in 1957. Bacall also had roles in such films as The Big Sleep, Dark Passage, and Key Largo. She garnered an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in The Mirror Has Two Faces, and also an Honorary Academy Award in 2009.
Bacall was also a stage actress, and won two Tonys for her stage work in Applause and Woman of the Year.
Bacall also made a contribution to anime as the voice of the Witch of the Waste in Disney’s English dub of Howl’s Moving Castle.
