The entirety of Episode 30 focuses on Sohoku and Hakone Academy trying to be the one to cross the first day’s finish line first. For most of the episode, it’s Shunsuke and Arakita trying to lead their respective ace to the final 500 meters.

This episode provides backstory for Arakita. In his second summer of junior high, he had been a baseball player until he broke his elbow before an important game. He made sure to go to a high school without a baseball team, and acts like a delinquent. Not only does he cop an attitude, but he has a pompadour to go along with his attitude. He only believed in his scooter, until one day, when he had a run-in with Fukutomi and they had a race with Fuktomi riding his bike and Arakita riding his scooter. Fukutomi won, and then Arakita became determined to learn how to race on a bicycle.

The episode reaches its conclusion as the two team’s aces reach the 500 meter mark and head for the first day’s finish line. However, something very unexpected happens right at the end of the episode.

The main purpose of this episode was to develop Arakita as a character. Previous to this, he had basically been in the background and had his name mentioned maybe once or twice. He’s actually kind of a creepy character. However, he’s still nowhere near as creepy as Midousuji is!

So it appears we’ll be seeing the end of the first day of the Inter-High in Episode 31. At this point, I think it’s safe to say that the most, if not all, of the remaining episodes will be focusing on the Inter-High. It’s shaping up to be an interesting race, and it’ll be interesting to see who will ultimately win at the Inter-High.

I’m continuing to enjoy watching Yowamushi Pedal, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing Episode 31 and finding out how the race will progress.
