Strike the Blood: Episode 13 – “Labyrinth of the Blue Witch I”

Strike the Blood is set on Itogami Island, and it’s known as the Demon District because it’s the home of various magical beings who have been authorized by the government to live there for protection and research purposes. The main character of the series is Kojou Akatsuki; three months prior to the start of the series, he became the Fourth Progenitor, which has given him vampiric powers. A girl named Yukina Himeragi has been given a mission by the Lion King Organization to observe Kojou, and if she deems him to be dangerous, she has been ordered to kill him.

At the beginning of episode 13, Sayaka has accompanied La Folia to the airport. While they’re there, La Folia sees a sign for the forthcoming Halloween Festa and asks about it. When La Folia says she wants to stay for the festival, Sayaka starts dragging her toward the plane. However, a strange phenomenon happens, and Sayaka and La Folia suddenly find themselves transported to the subfloat.

Meanwhile, two magicians known as the Meyer Sisters are attacking a squad on Itogami Island. They comment it’s been ten years since they’ve been back, and they also mention that Natsuki is also here.

The next day, Kojou is meeting up with an old childhood friend named Yuuma; Nagisa, Yukina, Asagi, Motoki, and Kanon are also there. It turns out Yuuma is a girl, and Asagi isn’t entirely happy with this development, because she thought Kojou’s old friend would be a boy.

While the group is out, Kojou receives a call from La Folia and Sayaka and finds out what happened to them. At the same time, Asagi and Motoki also receive phone calls and have to quickly head out. And then Astarte arrives, telling Kojou and Yukina that Natsuki has disappeared.

That night, Kojou has an occurrence of the phenomenon that Sayaka and La Folia experienced, except his experience somehow linked Yukina’s bathroom to his bathroom door.

Over the course of the episode, it was made rather blatantly obvious that Yuuma has feelings for Kojou. Right near the end of the episode, Yuuma confesses her feelings to Kojou, and she kisses him. However, something rather unexpected happens to Kojou the next morning, and this unexpected happening ends the episode.

As soon as I saw that Yuuma was a girl, I knew right away that she would more than likely end up becoming a part of Kojou’s harem. However, I didn’t expect what happened at the end of the episode to happen.

At this point, Kojou’s part of the storyline is making the most sense to me. I suspect that the Meyer Sisters have something to do with the strange occurrences that are going on, and they are also the ones who are more than likely behind Natsuki’s disappearance.

This is definitely a stronger start to a story arc than the previous story arc had been. It wasn’t nearly as confusing, and there’s a strong hook at the end of the episode to make the viewer want to come back for the next episode in order to find out what happened. I know I’m looking forward to watching episode 14 in order to find out why and how the unexpected event happened for Kojou at the end of this episode.

I just have to say it…a vampire series with “Meyer sisters”? Oh no.
