- Chieko Honda, Japanese voice actress, passed away on February 18 at the age of 49 due to multiple forms of cancer.
- Kaoru Shimamura, Japanese voice actress, passed away on February 26 at the age of 43 due to breast cancer.
- Shigeru Katsumi, the singer for the 8 Man anime opening theme, passed away on February 27 at the age of 75 due to a cerebral hemorrhage.
- Goro Naya, Japanese voice actor, passed away on March 5 at the age of 83 due to chronic respiratory failure.
- Kenji Utsumi, Japanese voice actor, passed away on June 13 at the age of 75 due to cancerous peritonitis.
