I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job.: Episode 10 – “I Wanted to be a Hero, but She Didn’t Want to be the Demon Lord.”

I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job. features a young man named Raul Chaser, who was working to pass his Hero Exam. Unfortunately, before he could become a hero, the hero program was suspended; the Demon Lord is gone and the demon empire has collapsed, so it’s decided there’s no longer a need for the program. Raul is now working at an electronics store called the Leon Magic Shop, and during the first episode he gets a new co-worker: Fino, the daughter of the Demon Lord.

This is another episode of the series that Crunchyroll has designated being appropriate for viewers 18 years of age and older due to content, and will require you to log in to view it. There were a couple of instances that I could see potentially warranting this rating.

At the beginning of episode 10, Raul thinks that Fino seems to be trying too hard after being attacked by a couple of heroes to try to convince her to become the next Demon Lord. She also starts ordering a lot of things to help bring business to the store. Later, when Raul talks to Fino, he finds out that she doesn’t want to be the Demon Lord; instead, she wants to become the manager of a Leon Magic Store in the Demon World.

A demon named Raid goes to see Lam at Lawson’s. She takes her break early so the two of them can talk privately, and he tells Lam that he wants her help get Fino to become the next Demon Lord. Lam, however, refuses to help.

Meanwhile, Fino is asked by the assistant manager to take a special order. When she shows it to Raul, he points out that she didn’t fill in any contact information or any specifics about the item the customer wanted. She says it’s a regular, and he tells her the next time he comes into the store, apologize profusely and take the order again. As Raul finishes, his two friends from hero school, Blaze and Klein, come into the store. They ask if he has a minute, because they have something they need to talk to him about.

Raul gets something to eat with Blaze and Klein, and they tell him that the hero system is coming back soon. Raul is astonished, and his former classmates tell him that a replacement for the Demon Lord is coming, and that his replacement is Fino. After some comments they make, Raul realizes that they are the two heroes that attacked Fino in episode nine, and he becomes rather upset.

Fino is having lunch at Lawson’s, and she sees the customer who made the special order getting into a taxi. She chases the taxi and manages to get the information she needs. As she’s heading back to Leon, she is abducted.

This episode is definitely leading the series towards its climax, and a lot happens in the second half of the episode to progress the story. I have to admit that I had pretty much guessed that Blaze and Klein were the ones who attacked Fino before the big reveal in this episode. One thing I hadn’t figured out prior to this episode is Fino’s wish to manage a Leon store in the Demon World.

We’ve seen some hints of the character Raid up to this point, but this is the first time we’ve actually learned his name. I hope we get to learn a little more about this particular character in the remaining episodes of the series.

It appears that Raid is intending to force Fino into becoming the next Demon Lord, and I’m curious to see how he thinks he’ll be able to pull it off. And from something we see near the end of the episode, it looks like Amada is also involved with trying to make Fino the Demon Lord and to helping to revive the hero system.

From what I’ve seen, it appears there’s only two more episodes left of the series. I’m very curious to see how this story is ultimately going to resolve over the next two episodes.
