The agency Haikyo announced that voice actress Ryoko Kinomiya passed away on November 25, 2013 due to multiple organ failure. She was 82 years old at the time of her passing.

Kinomiya, whose real name was Ryoko Sakurai, was born in Tokyo on July 10, 1931. Her roles included Maetel’s mother in Galaxy Express 999 and Aya Mifune (the mother) in Mach Go Go Go. She also narrated several anime titles, including Queen Millennia, Saint Young Men, Gintama, Cromartie High School, Jigoku Sensei Nube, and Tenamonya Voyagers. She also provided the Japanese dub voice for Faye Dunaway in live-action films.

She helped to establish the Haikyo agency in 1960. In honor of her long career, Kinomiya received a Merit Award in the 2nd Annual Seiyu Awards in 2002 and a Special Award from Tokuma Shoten’s Animage magazine’s Anime Grand Prix in 1980.
