Servant x Service is an anime series set in a government office building in Japan, and most of the main characters are new employees in the Welfare Department. Lucy Yamagani takes her job seriously, Yutaka Hasebe is a slacker, Saya Miyoshi is a nervous person, Megumi Chihaya is the temp worker who likes to cosplay and create doujinshi, Taishi Ichimiya is a first time supervisor who really doesn’t know how to lead others well, Toko Ichimiya is Taishi’s little sister who drops by the Welfare Department rather regularly and causes problems for Taishi and the others, Kenzo Momoi is a stuffed rabbit who can walk and talk and serves as the section manager for the Welfare Department, and Kanon Momoi is Kenzo’s daughter and Toko’s friend.
The first half of episode 11 focuses on Lucy, who realizes that she hasn’t talked to Yutaka outside of work since he confessed to her at the end of episode nine. She hasn’t seen him and starts asking around the office, but the only answer she gets is that he must be slacking off somewhere. When she finds Kenzo, he decides to help her out and takes her outside. There’s a bazaar going on, where Welfare Department employees make and sell things. As Kenzo is going through the bazaar, he is mistaken as merchandise and sold. Lucy is given another rabbit by the salesperson for the mistake, and Lucy tries to locate Kenzo. When she finally finds him, an amusing scene occurs.
After that, Lucy realizes she never saw Yutaka. They end up meeting on the roof and have a bit of an awkward talk. However, both the talk and the reactions were very realistic for these particular characters. This was a nice Yutaka and Lucy moment; however, it should be noted that the date was never mentioned once in this episode. I’m wondering if the date will be taking place in the final episode.
The second half of the episode focuses on Saya. We see her wandering around the city on her day off, and running into her co-workers at various locations. This section ends with Saya running into Tanaka’s grandmother and getting an earful.
The episode ends with Saya going out to dinner with Tanaka. This was actually rather important, because by the end of the dinner, Saya, along with the audience, realizes that Tanaka isn’t quite as bad as we had been led to believe. Saya even comments that he’s basically a kid who doesn’t know how to relax. After seeing this particular scene, I came to like Tanaka a little better. It looks like the writers are setting Saya and Tanaka up to potentially become a couple. It will be interesting to see what happens with these two, along with the other two couples in the series, during the final two episodes.
Once again, I enjoyed watching Servant x Service. Looking back, it’s amazing to me how much this show has progressed from the simple comedy that it started out as back in episode one.
