This episode begins a new story arc, where Kanetsugu’s master is summoned to Jurakudai in Kyoto by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Kanetsugu’s master is goaded into conquering the Sado Province, and Kanetsugu believes this is actually a trap.
Kanetsugu goes to see Keiji in the red light district, and lets him know that he’ll be gone for a while. Kanetsugu regrets having to go, because there was something he wanted to show Keiji.
As Kanetsugu and the others begin their travel to the Sado Province, their way is blocked by a armor-clad man on a horse. The episode climaxes with Kanetsugu and the armor-clad man getting in a battle. If you think about it, it’s pretty easy to figure out who the armor-clad man is.
I have to give this episode credit for not having the timeskip problem that plagued most of the second episode. Unfortunately, I still believe that the overall pacing of the series feels rather sluggish. I’ve just been having a hard time getting into this series, and I find myself feeling rather bored by the end of each episode.
I don’t necessarily think that Gifu Dodo!! Kanetsugu and Keiji is a bad series, because I believe there’s an interesting premise going into it. Unfortunately, the way the premise has been executed has left a lot to be desired for me. However, if you enjoy slower paced historical fiction anime series, then you might find enjoyment in this series. I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed that this series didn’t do much for me, because I had really wanted to like it.
Unfortunately, this means that I will be dropping Gifu Dodo!! Kanetsugu and Keiji after giving the series three chances to try to impress me.
