Anime News Network is reporting that the oldest surviving Japanese television animation has been discovered, and that the discovery of the animation’s film was revealed on June 14, 2013. According to ANN’s report, the film was found in a warehouse in NTV’s Ikuta Studio in Kawasaki City this past February. The animation, which is in color and titled Mogura no Aventure (Mole’s Adventure), aired on NTV on October 15, 1958.
Mogura no Aventure, which runs for eight minutes and 53 seconds, was produced with paper cut-outs. The dialogue and song that appeared in the production were performed by an actress named Sonomi Nakajima.
Mogura no Aventure will be shown on Japan’s anime channel, BS Animax, on July 21, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. as part of the TV Anime 50-nen no Kinjito special.
