Manga creator Yuji Nishi passed away on February 6, 2013 due to stomach cancer. He was 59 years old at the time of his passing.

Nishi was born in Fukui Prefecture, and worked as a writer with several artists to create manga. Nishi worked with such artists as Hana China and Minna no Bus.

With Terry Yamamoto, Nishi created the Ando Natusu – Edo Wagashi Shokunin Monogatari manga, which had run in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Original magazine since 2005. However, the manga had been on hiatus this year due to Nishi’s illness. This manga series inspired a 2008 live-action television series.
