Hisao Maki, creator of the WARU manga, passed away on January 2, 2012 at the age of 71.

Maki was born under the name Matsuchi Takamori, and was the younger brother of the late manga creator Ikki Kajiwara. Maki wrote several prose and manga stories, and co-created the story of the Tomorrow’s Joe video anime series, Joe vs. Joe. Maki produced several films, including a live-action film based on the Tiger Mask manga. He also starred in several live-action works, and produced, wrote, or acted in several works by Takashi Miike.

Maki served as the president of Maki Production. He was also an accomplished karate fighter and instructor, and he ran his own martial arts training facility.
