Vertical’s Announcements at Otakon 2011

Vertical, Inc. Marketing Director Ed Chavez made several announcements during the company’s panel at Otakon 2011:

  • Vertical’s release of the Black Jack manga had been on hiatus for a year, but they are now back on track. The company is planning to release volumes of the title every other month.
  • Vertical is releasing Osamu Tezuka’s Book of Human Insects. The volume will be available in hard cover with a slip jacket.
  • Vertical is releasing a one-volume manga titled, Velveteen & Mandala by Jiro Matsumoto.
  • Volume Nine of the Twin Spica manga will be released in September 2011. Chavez said the series had not been selling particularly well; however, there are no plans to cancel the series. Instead, Vertical will be raising the page count to approximately 400 in each release starting with Volume 10.
  • Vertical is also releasing The Drops of God by Tadashi Agi and Shu Okimoto.
  • The first volume of the No Longer Human manga will be released at the end of September 2011.
  • Chavez announced that Vertical will be releasing Osamu Tezuka’s Princess Knight manga series. The first volume will feature a chapter that has not been published in Japan in 30 years. Also, the version Vertical used for this release is their own translation, rather than Kodansha’s bilingual version. The first volume will be released in September 2011.
  • Vertical has licensed GTO: 14 Days in Shonan.
  • Vertical is releasing a compilation edition of Osamu Tezuka’s Dororo. All three volumes will be available in this compilation, which will be released in February 2012. The price for the compilation is $24.95.
