Manga at Comic Con International 2011

There will be several manga events at this year’s Comic Con International in San Diego, which is taking place this weekend.

Thursday, July 21, 2011
Kondansha Comics will be holding an industry panel from 4-5 p.m. in Room 23ABC.

The “Manga: Lost in Translation” panel will be taking place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Room 26AB. This panel features translators William Flanagan, Jonathan Tarbox, Mari Morimoto, and Stephen Paul.

The “JManga: Hear It Straight from Japan!” panel will be taking place from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. in Room 25ABC. Representatives from Kodansha, Shueisha, Shogakukan, Futabasha, and Kadokawa will be part of this panel.

Viz Media will be holding an industry panel from 2-3 p.m. in Room 9.

Shonen Jump will be holding an industry panel from 3-4 p.m. in Room 9.

The “CBLDF: Can Comics Send You To Jail?” panel will be taking place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Room 26AB. In this panel, representatives from the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund will be talking about the rise in folks being arrested for possession of comic art and what fans can do to help.

The “Best and Worst Manga of the Year” panel will be taking place 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Room 26AB. This panel features several manga bloggers sharing their thoughts on manga titles from over the past year.

Yen Press will be hosting an industry panel from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Room 8.

The “UDON and the Art of Comic and Game Design” panel will be taking place from 7-8 p.m. in Room 4.

The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards will be taking place 8:30-11:30 p.m. in the Hilton Indigo Ballroom. Several manga titles received nominations for this year’s Eisners.

Manga Drawing for Kids will be taking place from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. in Room 30CDE.

Comic Arts Conference 14: Manga Censorship will be taking place from 12-1:30 p.m. in Room 26AB.

Drawing Manga and Dynamic Anatomy will be taking place from 1-2 p.m. in Room 30CDE.
